I believe this is why we should encourage our children to write as often as possible. They may not be inspired every day, but as this quote attributed to Picasso implies, when inspiration strikes, they need to be writing in order to capture it.

Right we’ve all had a couple of weeks…
What is your favourite book of the summer so far?

I’ve very much enjoyed ‘Shadow Thieves’ by Peter Burton.

A great Y5/6 text and for fans of Wild Boy, Ned’s Circus of Marvels, The Nowhere Emporium or Rooftoppers.

Many children enter school with a foundation in visual literacy, having been exposed to and engaged with film and animation from an early age.

In educational settings, we can build upon this existing knowledge as a foundation for further literacy development.

We read 'The Dictionary Story' by @OliverJeffers for the first time last night. My 7-year-old wanted to join in and read all of the little words that had spilt from the dictionary.

It would be great to use with children and introduce them to dictionaries.

There is a war sweeping across Europe and amidst the bombs and Anderson shelters Ronnie Smith has some battles of his own to fight. Ronnie’s dad has left and Johnny moves in his place. Johnny is a crook and a ‘blackshirt’ but it seems only Ronnie can see through his charade.

It’s times like these that make me feel thankful to that headteacher who forced me out of school and had a quiet word with the school I was going to so that they withdrew the job offer. Literacy Shed was born just after! #OriginStory
