I always participate in the art projects I assign. This is a 30in by 28in lap afghan I made, inspired by Mexikid, written by Pedro Martin. Each square is one chapter. The border is a variegated yarn that features colors from the cover. Thank you, #SDWriteOutLoud for providing us with the books!
This is a 30in by 28in lap afghan I made, inspired by Mexikid, written by Pedro Martin. Each square is one chapter. The border is a variegated yarn that features colors from the cover. It features: sage, orange, yellow, light brown, dark brown, midnight blue, light blue, pink, cyan, white, red, black, peach. All colors are matched to the colors used in the graphic memoir, Mexikid, by Pedro Martin.

Getting ready to set-up our art exhibit celebrating the amazing graphic memoir Mexikid, by Pedro Martin. Nearly 400 students at my school are participating this year.

I recently read Displacement by Kiku Hughes.This graphic novel is about a girl forced back in time to 1943 and is sent to an interment camp with her then teenaged grandmother. This line spoke to me, “Being from the future meant very little when my education on the past was so limited” (Hughes, 154).

Another teenager is holding a violin in the middle third, near the right edge of the cover. Both characters are of Japanese lineage and appear to be in a prison camp. There is barbed wire and a guard tower in the top third of the cover. A barren, and dull looking landscape fills in the rest of the image. All the colors have muted tones and are not vibrant.
