ReconAfrica is a disreputable Canadian oil and gas company exploring in Namibia. Founders said they would ‘transform’ Namibia and lift people out of generational poverty. The company has violated Namibian law and the communities living in their drill area.

And Eneas Emvula, a Namibian member of parliament with the Landless People’s Movement, recently called for an independent parliamentary investigation of ReconAfrica. He told me the company needs to stop violating local laws (like drilling without proper permits).

Trudeau promised an Ombudsperson with the power to hold Canada’s mining companies accountable for human rights violations overseas. BUT that office never had the powers he promised after being neutered by the mining industry. Either you care about human rights or you don't. They don't.
