"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
@associationpt.bsky.social As a scholar of religion who also does political theory... how can I find your next upcoming CFP?

It costs taxpayers $89,425 to incarcerate one person at Trump’s “Alligator Alcatraz” per year.

That’s more than what 95% of Americans spend on housing and food.

Republican priorities: Waste tax dollars torturing immigrants, while cutting support for working class families.

T-12 hours til defense.

I hurt my own feelings twice in 24 hours when my brain decided to interpret compliments ("I'm a person people want to work with" and "when this becomes a book or series of articles") as insults ("I'm a personality hire" and "my diss won't make a good book").

Any tips on how to make that stop? 😅

The number one thing I've learned from my dissertation is that I have no idea what preposition to use at least 30% of the time.

T-48 hours til the #dissertation is due. And I've been nauseated from stress for the last 24 🙃

Go go go go go go go!

Crying from overwhelm while editing your #dissertation is completely normal, right? ... Right???

Actual feedback from my advisor on a dissertation chapter: "Imagine here that you are in drag as Jonathan Z. Smith." 😂

Anybody else got creative feedback on their work?

It has taken me two hours and two phonecalls to a colleague to write two summary paragraphs for this chapter.

I'm happy with the work I'm doing, but my brain is FATIGUED.

My sister (a first grade teacher) just asked if she can purchase a copy of my #dissertation once it's done because she wants to read it (and wants a nice copy) 😭

Fellow #academicbluesky - does your family read your work?

@chicagomanual.bsky.social As someone who writes frequently about both Rawls and Jesus (though rarely together) I think I shall forever hold a grudge with you for requiring that I add an apostrophe and an "s" to singular nouns to denote possession, even when they end in "s".

It just looks wrong! 🤢

Decided to write from my office today. Got to campus and realized I didn't have my flash drive. Went home to get it. It wasn't at home. Went back to the office and it was in the pocket of the cardigan I wore yesterday 🤦🏻‍♀️ #academicbluesky

I have my edits back from my advisor and two weeks to complete them before the final version of my diss goes out to my committee.

Thanks to him, this work now feels like it might be intelligible to people not in my own head.

It's nice to finally not feel stupid.

God bless editors. Seriously.

I can edit other people, but I can't see the forest for the trees in my own writing.

When submitting an abstract for a #conference do you a) write according to the CFP b) try to shoehorn an idea you've got into the CFP or c) something else?

I usually default to b. Which usually works. But to never feel like my ideas easily fit somewhere is a bummer.

A friend recently asked to see my application materials for the job I got.

... She pointed out the doubling of a word in my cover letter... In a sentence about teaching non-native English speakers. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just goes to show you don't have to be perfect to be employable 😅

As someone who has been working toward her doctorate for 6 years, I've never understood the convention of "professor" being the preferred title to "Dr." in many academic spaces.

I am contemplating giving #audiobooks a try for the first time on my 13 hr drive home after the new year.

I enjoy non-spicy fantasy, literary fiction with female MCs, some sci-fi, poetry, historical romances (again with minimal spice), and biographies/memoirs of creatives.

Recommendations?

This is trench art, made by a soldier living the unbearable in 1916. When we face cataclysm, humans make art. It’s how we cope & protest, every kind of art, including ephemeral arts from rage baking to a game night.

Hobbies are human
hobbies are self-care
hobbies are art
hobbies are resistance!
