This comment just shows the complete lack of understanding of the situation by @laylamoran.bsky.social - instead of listening to families and reading our 40-page impact report, she’s quoting @rcm.org.uk who played a key role in promoting ‘normal birth’ & the drive to lower caesarean rates

Do have a read of our latest article about how the term #ObstetricViolence camouflages the harm caused by the promotion of #normalbirth & undermines #InformedConsent in the process.

Very important read given the UK’s national maternity & neonatal investigation.

In Psychology we pay such close attention to ethical practices & rigour in research- why is this different for @ouhospitals.bsky.social @oxfordlawfac.bsky.social @oxprimarycare.bsky.social?

Using patient data without due consent processes 🤔

July ‘24 I complained to @ox.ac.uk re the use of patient data collected via MNVP FB survey w/o ethical approval or patient consent by academics, #OxfordUniversityHospitals staff & the MNVP (funded by NHS BOB ICB)- jme.bmj.com/content/51/5/j…

Oxford University said no issues…🤷‍♀️

And yet while women are ignored & not listened to by maternity staff at OUH, their data is used for research projects, & they are suddenly of interest when the harm they experienced can be ‘showcased’ in medical journals.

After presenting my first paper at SRIP, next up is my second paper at @bsaecf.bsky.social @bsa-medsoc.bsky.social in a fortnight-

Seeing lots of posts about Odent- let’s not forget that he thought children born by caesarean birth were born with an “impaired capacity to love” & even checked the CS rates in countries to see if it was safe to go out at night…

👀

And we wonder why caesarean shame exists…

Really enjoyed presenting my PhD research “Intensive Birthing Ideology and Maternal Self-Discrepancy: Understanding the psychological impact of unmet birth expectations” at the @thesrip.bsky.social Conference today. Many interesting conversations afterwards. #SRIP2025 #PerinatalPsychology

Let’s not forget even our own Oxfordshire MPs have not listened- even in the face of awareness of repeated preventable harm. This was @laylamoran.bsky.social via BBC in April. Layla hasn’t once engaged with our group. @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social @eddavey.libdems.org.uk familiesfailedbyOUH.co.uk

Great to see my presentation abstract published in @bjog.bsky.social following the RCOG World Congress 2025. Check it out under ‘Hot Topics in Obstetrics’- “Unmet birth expectations: Maternity care's role in maternal mental health”. #BirthTrauma #PsychologicalSafety #PhDChat #Maternity

Time & again women’s knowledge about their bodies, & clinical expertise from beyond OUH is dismissed leading to preventable harm. This is not historic harm- this is happening now…we have families joining our group daily.

Babies’ & mothers’ lives put at risk because of a drive to increase vaginal birth rates & lower caesarean rates. Horrors of Morecambe Bay allowed to be repeated by the Chair of OUH who was also the #Ethics Expert at Morecambe Bay… HOW? WHY?
July 25, 2025 at 4:20 PM
Women begging for caesareans… Being put through horrific #psychologicalharm trying to access a safe mode of birth that they could access on the #NHS in other parts of the U.K… All because of anti-#caesarean maternity leadership at #OxfordUniversityHospitals.
July 25, 2025 at 4:20 PM
A mother who made it clear she did not want a forceps birth dismissed by an #OxfordUniversityHospitals midwife & told a caesarean wasn’t an option. This breaches #InformedConsent guidance & #HumanRights. Why is this allowed to continue?
July 25, 2025 at 4:20 PM
The latest Families Failed by #OxfordUniversityHospitals Instagram post focuses on the on-going denial of access to #caesarean birth. 🚨 A mother with a big baby told a caesarean would stop her bonding with her baby…she experienced a 3b tear🧵 @carequalitycomm.bsky.social @nhsengland.bsky.social

This feels poignant after what the Families Failed by #OxfordUniversityHospitals Maternity Services campaign has exp’d over the past year. The Chair of OUH, Prof Jonathan Montgomery (UCL), was the Morecambe Bay Inquiry’s Ethics expert- make of that what you will. #MaternityScandal #BirthTrauma

The 2021 Tees Law report on NHS Trusts failing to support maternal request caesareans was a warning sign. Look at the Trusts that didn’t even respond: @ouhospitals.bsky.social & @mse.nhs.uk. The clues were there all along. Why have leaders not listened? #MaternitySafety
