Turns out they were both right. Sometimes you get walloped with a carrot, sometimes the stick is painted orange and has a green top.

]- Mum goes missing, Noah's
investigation begins
]- Finds Nwissy, leading to Wizard
of Oz book. Party time, slayyy! Idea. Let's light up
the dark.
- Mysterious illness, Room 108.
Quite sad, really.
]- heartbreaking letter, photos
of Cassie and the 'real world'. Also, Noah finds
money, and is gay? Maybe for Kazuo.
]- Mysterious woman arrives,
Cassie's sister, Mrs Siebold.
- What's beyond the
walls? Who is the landlord? Siebold and Jahan
Stevens reveal all. And Noah joins the Rose
Rebellion! You must fight to escape, basically
- They break the chains and set
fire to the grandfather clock, destroying the time
loop that kept them trapped in Capitalism. And
they use the ancient sword to behead The
Landlord.(symbolism, see?)
- And they leave the Tenement.
The Nwissy and the lantern lead them back into
the light of the real world (rising from the ashes)
and they realise it was all an EXPERIMENT, and
they'd been kept in stasis. Jahan and Siebold
were defectors who tried to save them. The....

There's something magical about the way Quentin Blake illustrated Roald Dahl's books. The drawings look chaotic and scribbly at first, but there's so much life and personality in the characters. Utterly enchanting. ✨

You're welcome! ☺️ And I agree, the theorycrafting is addictive. For anyone else reading, #Tenement is an upcoming novel by @professoremily.bsky.social. It's set in an infinite Tenement complex, with all sorts of strange rules. Highly mysterious, dystopian stuff. If you have any ideas, let us know.
![Tenement Rules (Incomplete)
Rule 1: No leaving.
Rule 2: Front door stays shut.
Rule 3: No opening windows if they appear. Draw curtains, don’t look out.
Rule 4: Follow the rules, you idiots.
Rule 8: Don't mess with the lights.
Rule 9: Don't mess with airways or “water pipe” (very suspicious).
Rule 10: Don't mess with the landlord’s clock. It regulates night and day.
Rule 13: Tip the landlord or get the bonk.
Rule 15: No helping fellow tenants with rent.
Rule 19: Do not interact with the creatures known as the “Followers”.
Rule 21: No unattended open flames.
Rule 22. No noise at night, or rent-collectors will be informed and you get the bonk.
Rule 25: No fighting.
Rule 27: No killing unless it's for food.
Rule 29: No lying.
Rule 64: Orphans will be rehomed to a different unit. Kids < 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
Rule 65: [Incomplete] Something about children with debilitating deformities.
Rule 66: If you have a contagious illness, go to Room 108 for quarantine.
Rule 84: Only books written by Tenants may be taken out of the library. This was my favourite story, and I have a feeling it influenced my writing style as well. With Pooh knowledgeably talking about Heffalumps despite having never encountered any, or the way they chat in such a cosy, familiar manner. I love it so much, even to this day. 🥰

I still have the ancient thing collecting dust on my shelf. I donated a lot of my childhood books, but I can't seem to let go of this one. My mum and I would read it every night when I was little. She'd start a chapter, and I'd read the rest out loud to her, giggling the whole time. 🥰
