Some context here is important. Serious accidents happen more often when non-serious accidents begin to pile up. The data for that is clear and shows that accidents happen all the time, and have actually began increasing pretty rapidly since 2022

2/5: Delta flight struck in Seattle
2/6: Flight wrecks in Alaska
2/10: Crash in Scottsdale
2/12: Military jet crashes in San Diego

Pretty surprised about how anti-American such a big chunk of my academic colleagues are. Part of me hopes it’s just a load (annoying) minority. This minority ain’t doing us any favors. Most of our research is funded by taxpayer dollars. Perhaps we need to be more cognizant of taxpayer priorities.

So much shilling going on for universities because of the NIH cut to indirect costs. Yet, universities have so much fat to cut. I think they’ll be fine.

The best thing that can happen to academic STEM fields is a purge of all ACTIVISTS pretending to be scientists/researchers.

What’s with all this hate for ASM. It’s a society for Microbiology, not political DEI nonsense. Most researchers just want to focus on their research and not think about this crap.
