Finally knocked Desert Hearts off the list last night as well. Really easy to fall in love with this movie even if it felt like it's rushing past a lot of the romantic development at times. That scene through the car window is magic.

First rewatch of Network in eight years (jesus) and I've no clue how this didn't make a stronger impression on me the first time. Television as a corrupting force that evaporates boiling populist anger and turns liberation movements into ratings junkies.

Imagine having this résumé lol. Ridiculous.

For its status, I don’t see NEARLY enough talk of The Human Condition trilogy, for which Nakadai brings an extraordinary performance as a morally conflicted pacifist labour chief in World War 2. A must-watch.

God damn he brings so much to the castle siege with his rigid stillness as everything to his name crumbles and burns around him and his subsequent ghostly exit.

Tatsuya Nakadai brought so much to Japanese Cinema. Sword of Doom’s final violent outburst is elevated so high with Nakadai’s extraordinary face twisted in rage and agony. RIP

Late to this, but dug the hell out of Cloud (Kiyoshi Kurosawa). An unpredictable spiraling piece of nightmare logic. Everyone's just re-selling the same useless trinkets to one another and it's driving us insane.

The melody is alternating dominant chords that promise to arrive somewhere, but instead take you to more dominant chords, so the result is that you are in a continued tension that never really resolves.

That way, it felt like even the film’s musical score would haunt the driver with the temptation to go for a piss.

Once these were decided, the music was built outwards from these sounds.

Before finding the melody or rhythm, the foundation was built with textures. Composers Guillermo and Daniel experimented with water droplets, hollow plastic thuds, sand, ticking clock elements.

Early on, we established that we wanted the music to take itself dead seriously, despite the film’s comedic premise. Much of the comedy comes from the juxtaposition of the more conventional thriller aesthetics and the silliness of the content.

How do you compose for a scene where a getaway driver needs to piss himself?

A little behind-the-scenes at the musical process behind the short film “Full Tank”.

Why's the background got like these faint lines like a computer chip or something. Why aren't they using the God Mode posters Tony Stella did, unless that's just for the Arrow Video release in the UK?

When I say freezing I mean literally freezing. Freezing as in "the rain machine froze and we had to defrost it" freezing. But they all pushed through and I can't be grateful enough.

Huge thank you to the crew of FULL TANK who worked their asses off over two freezing cold February nights to bring the film to life.

Baffled by this bus and its length-spanning ads for Don’t Look Up, a movie that came out four years ago.

Saturday Fiction (Lou Ye)
Left a bit distant by the first half's stodgy plotting, but the back end culminates in beautifully immediate and tactile shootouts, pistols puncturing the un-scored soundscape and muzzle flashes popping like fireworks in the dark. Comparisons to Public Enemies are very apt.

Thrilled to finally share the trailer for my new short film. The image of the cool, collected getaway driver is a formative cinematic image for me, so this was an absolute blast to make.

A getaway driver must wait three minutes for a gang of burglars to return to his car before making their escape.

There’s just one problem...

He’s absolutely desperate for a piss.
