A strange person collection strange clippings
Ok…sold! It looks beautiful, and great lineup of writers, and this time of year I need to read fictional terror to distract from the mundane terrors. 🤣

We can be nuanced. We can fully support this AND …we can feel very bad for the random person who’s doing a home project and just needs to exchange the pipe for a different size. 🥹🤣🤣

Blame it on the small town. Big Dan and Little Ann were just too progressive for ‘em. 🤣🤣🤣

Hello fellow ozarkian! We did read Where the Red Fern Grows! And I’ve never read Across Five Aprils. Curious if you’re in a different gen or smaller/bigger town than me, but I won’t make you out your location or tier of decrepitude 🤣 (41, Springfield here)

The store owner is a hero. It was really brave to stand up to them. Many of us would be inwardly hating them but too afraid to refuse service.

Samin Nosrat skitters across the ceiling, Mary Berry’s dismembered head spins, spewing borscht. Are we close, Jordan? Tell us if we’re close!

I’m pretty sure in 1956 the average salary was about $900 and a donkey, and grocery stores paid YOU to take a gallon of milk, so just churn out a couple of short stories for Boys Life and call it good (you know, in this hypothetical time traveling story in which Lee’s friends pay you instead of her)

Yeah! Something about kid lit. The dreamy, surreal illustrations of David McPhail in The Nightgown of the Sullen Moon, for example. It’s like somehow those images have been more influential to me than whole loads of English major canon stuff (though that, too, of course).

Tove Jansson
Maurice Sendak
Edward Gorey
George Saunders
Kelly Link 😌

All of the writers other people mentioned are also ones I love (Octavia Butler too) but if I’m being honest, my aesthetic is 3/5 weird children’s lit, 2/5 you and George. You have a middle aged acolyte in MO. NO PRESSURE

I feel bad for some people driving Teslas (not the cybertruck…they knew what they were doing). Some people have to have just been swept up in the initial intrigue. And now they own this car they probably can’t get rid of. Someone should make a bumper sticker so Tesla owners can denounce Nazism.

So f***ing awful to watch. I feel helpless as he inverts every one of our country’s values (well, supposed values).
