🧵 In 2025, book censorship in the United States is rampant and common. Never before in the life of any living American have so many books been systematically removed from school libraries across the country.

Good news in a rather bleak week!
Celebrate a huge victory for the Freedom to Read! A judge has struck down most of Florida’s HB 1069, restoring hundreds of unjustly banned books and affirming that blanket censorship has no place in education.
“None Of These Books Are Obscene”: Judge Strikes Down Much of Florida’s Book Ban Bill

This is a big win for intellectual freedom and will have big implications in other ongoing lawsuits and future laws aiming to ban books.

Stephen Miller tried to claim only real "Americans" built the Empire State Building, but he left out the true stories of the Indigenous ironworkers who actually did. The Mohawk Skywalkers helped shape America's skylines—and shatter the lie behind Miller’s whitewashed nostalgia.

The beauty of writing about a child is that you can see the monstrosity of the world adults have built filter through their innocence. But no child stays innocent for ever.”

Brilliant! I could add 50 more books to Ann’s list! Literary fiction is not dead!!! It’s just more inclusive & the voices are broader. Wild wonderful books are out there, just stop in to any independent bookstore, you will literally be tripping over them!
It’s Friday, and if you haven’t read this towering stack of great literature, it’s new to you! This week, Ann mixes it up a bit and responds to an op-ed by David Brooks in the NYT. Is the novel really dead? Read the article, watch Ann’s take, and let us know what you think.
