South Central LA neighbor seeking beauty and social justice for children and their families with Redeemer Community Partnership.
Our home is now gas free! We chipped away at it over several years. Each electric appliance has been an improvement over the gas one it replaced. Plus: lower utility bills, improved in-door air quality, no more gas leaks, and no more pollution vented into our community.

We did it! With just 72-hour notice, neighbors came together to build a floating sign out of deer fencing and U-Haul tarps, and then turned out for a pop-up protest to protect our community from toxic acid work.
May 13, 2025 at 12:52 AM
A great start to the day! 25+ neighbors showed up to a pop-up rally outside the Murphy Drill Site to protest the oil company's scheduled acid work less than 1000' from 3 schools serving 1,300 students. The work was canceled. #EndNeighborhoodDrilling

Good news! After overcoming design flaws and costly ($1M) copper wire theft, construction on the Jefferson Beautiful Safe Routes to School project is back on track. Looking forward to the repaired sidewalks, ramps, bike lanes, pedestrian lighting, signalized crossings, and street trees coming soon!

Full circle moment in South Central LA youth who marched with @redeemercp.bsky.social as children to close the Jefferson Drill Site returned to see the progress! They learned about the ongoing remediation & shared their powerful vision for a redeveloped space that will finally heal this community.

Fed-up with oil fumes in their classrooms & oil pollution in their neighborhood, South Central LA youth met with LA mayor Bass. Youth are defending our community & challenging the norms of corporate wealth before public health. May their love of neighbor & neighborhood inspire us to greater action.

Good news for breathers! Today, @gavinnewsom.bsky.social, signed AB 3233 granting local jurisdictions authority to phase-out oil drilling. AB 3233 gives new life to LA's oil phase-out ordinance after the oil industry won a lawsuit overturning it.

Our community organized to close the Jefferson oil drill site and worked with Asm. Jones-Sawyer to secure a $10M grant to buy it. CalPoly Pomona landscape architecture students are helping our community imagine the possibilities for a neighborhood park, affordable housing, and a community center.

Oil operator E&B thanks @Planning4LA and @CityAttorneyLA for all the money they saved the company by taking away health protections from South LA residents living next to the Murphy Drill Site. #EarlyChristmas!

@Planning4LA & @CityAttorneyLA propose allowing oil company, E&B, to import & burn tens-of-millions of cubic feet of methane next to our homes & schools. Meanwhile, they have prohibited on-site power generation at West LA drill sites for decades. @STAND_LA @RedeemerCP @MayorOfLA

LA breaks ground on the community led, $12.2 million Jefferson Beautiful safe routes to school project. Repaired sidewalks, street trees, pedestrian lighting, bike lanes, signalized crossings, and more coming to Jefferson Blvd. from Vermont Ave. west to Western Ave.

@RedeemerCP organizing reaches a milestone as LA orders the Murphy Drill Site to be enclosed & electrified. These health protections were given to wealthier, West LA neighborhoods 20+ years ago. THANK YOU @Planning4LA @CityAttorneyLA @MayorOfLA!

Oil operator E&B "resisted" CalGEM's orders to cap a well. Last week it exploded seriously injuring a worker. LA puts South LA residents at-risk from E&B by withholding protections it gave wealthier, whiter, West LA neighborhoods 20+ years ago. @STAND_LA ...

CTC approves $26.3 million for the Normandie Beautiful active transportation project in South LA! The project creates safe routes to school for 9,000 students attending 14 schools and removes Normandie Ave. from the High Injury Network. @redeemercp #ATP

It was a VERY GOOD day for BREATHERS in LA.
(1) LA votes to end oil drilling citywide
(2) LA funds studies to expedite oil phase-out
(3) Air District approves a $325,000/ton NOx cost effectiveness threshold.

As 1,300 students started class less than 1,000' away, two 5,000-gallon tanker trucks rolled on to the LA Catholic Archdiocese's oil site to perform unpermitted acid maintenance. 3rd time this year. Sacrificial zoning, malign neglect, & env. racism by @Planning4LA.
November 22, 2024 at 9:09 AM
.@vbertoni, @CityAttorneyLA refuse to stop Big Oil's unpermitted acid maintenance, so it keeps happening. South LA residents woke up to toxic acid work next door to our homes, health centers, schools and daycares with no notice. @MayorOfLA is this okay with you?

Demolition of the Jefferson Drill Site in our South LA neighborhood reminds us that faith the size of a mustard seed, love for one's community, and collective action can move mountains. #EndNeighborhoodDrilling @RedeemerCP @STAND_LA

South LA residents woke up to an unpermitted acid job taking place next door. This highly toxic work requires a Determination of Conditions & a public hearing. The City of LA and drill site owner, @ArchbishopGomez, are preying on South LA children & their families. @STAND_LA

HISTORIC! The LA City Council voted 14-0 to end oil drilling and phase-out all existing oil operations! @RedeemerCP is grateful for our neighbors, @STAND_LA partners, allies & elected leaders who made this victory possible! Together, are bending the arc of history toward justice.

Tomorrow marks a historic day for LA, a city built on the world's largest urban oil field. Years of tireless community organizing by @STAND_LA, @RedeemerCP and other EJ partners will reach a major milestone when the LA City Council votes on phasing-out oil extraction citywide.

BREAKING: LA City Budget & Finance Comm. advances motion to declare oil extraction a nonconforming land use immediately city-wide! Grateful for leadership by @PaulKrekorian & members @BobBlumenfield @Kdeleon @CurrenDPriceJr. Onward to City Council!

Oil companies use radioactive materials for well testing. The CHP determined that this truck that transported & deployed radioactive isotopes in our South LA neighborhood had been illegal for roadway use for 12+ years. #EndNeighborhoodDrilling

CM Lee of @CD12LA, You voted to support a phase-out of toxic, neighborhood oil drilling at PLUM. Why are you now holding the motion back in the Arts & Parks Committee? Please waive it out of committee for our children and our common home. #JusticeDelayedIsJusticeDenied
