We recently started our youngest on a low dose of Vyvanse with the intent to slow down his brain enough to help him think about his options so he can make good choices. His immense energy and excitement define him, we'd never want to change that. We just want to help him succeed. So far, so good.

That's a good point. I'm the highest paid person in my building. By choice, I drive the oldest car in the lot - no car payment. I also bring my lunch every day. I have a Keurig and use the adapter for my own coffee (which I roast myself - also cheaper).

Gotta have affordable housing for that to even be an option.

Same. We are both pretty well paid. We are focusing on retirement savings and limiting debt, and try to live with a reasonable budget. It's not austere, we allow treats, but we're far from living it up.

I see alot of them in Nashville. Not my thing but seems they work well.

We skip fast food most of the time and do sit down. Cost isn't that much more, and with the portion size we almost always get another meal out of it. But it's pretty rare for us to not eat at home anymore.

This is the worst "well, actually" I've ever seen.

My dad died a week ago. I'm ok with accepting that and remembering him. He talked about death being inevitable, nothing to fear. An artificial dad would not honor the reality that he was or do justice to his mind or personality.

Indeed.

Ew

I mean, speaking as one who lives and works in the Nashville area, the biggest crime is the cost of housing, closely followed by the traffic. Fix that and people will be much happier I think.

For the umpteenth time, I swear everyone in this stupid state isn't a complete idiot. Unfortunately it's enough to keep electing complete idiots.

I got a couple of new knees last year. The rest of me is pretty worn out and raggedy, but I've got great knees!

I grew up northeast of there a ways. We spoke of Odessa as not being hell, but you can see it from there. That's about the most tore up wasteland I've ever seen.

Like many contracts, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

1 bedroom apartment in Nashville averages $1840/month. That's a huge chunk of cash for someone making even triple minimum wage of $7.25 here. I figure the people busting their asses to survive owe themselves a donut and coffee every once in awhile.

I was bored and playing around. Asked it to show me a standard fretboard with notes for a guitar. Got 8 strings, almost all notes wrong. I gave more specifics, 6 strings, standard tuning. Still wrong. After multiple tries, still extra strings, wrong notes. Not even gonna try physics.

I know I'm a better car driver because of all the time I spent on a motorcycle.
October 29, 2025 at 7:55 PM
One of the key components in the motorcycle safety foundation rider course I took years ago was to ride as though everyone wants to kill you. I sold my bike several years ago, but drive every day with that in mind. And it's true.

I don't like it when dystopian fiction becomes reality. I don't like it when never again becomes again.

You do. We used to go out on the range and canyons near Florence in our jeeps. I was in Tucson for several years and then drove out there from Austin. We lived in NW Phoenix until about 4 years ago. We're west of Nashville, TN now. Very different terrain.

We went places that required built rigs. And it was alot of fun, getting to remote, hard to reach camping areas. Very quiet and very few other people there. I've got a family now, more into a tamer form of exploring. My wife's Explorer can get us anywhere we want to go.

I think about that as I'm considering the type of pickup I 'want' relative to what I 'need.' I've done quite a bit of off-roading and jeep trails in the southwest US. I'm not in that stage of life right now and really just need something to go to the lumber yard for house stuff.
