A mountain bluebird taken last spring.
I’ve always particularly struggled getting good shots of these guys, they seem to taunt me. I’ll find one posing perfectly, raise my camera, try to get it framed up, and it’s gone.

To capture this shot, I laid belly-down in icy winter mountain runoff. I stayed as long as I could bear the cold.
Brutal at the time, but I love that now I have a photo not just of a dipper, but of a memory.

Hyper sensitive to heat, they can’t survive even brief exposure to temperatures above 77.9° F/ 25.5° C, making them a remarkable indicator species for climate change.

So impressive!
When I was first starting out I was terrified of ISO, and was trying to photograph and elk just after sunset.
Did not end up with nearly the detail you did but I think it kinda looks like a painting.

My wife crocheted me custom fitted wool camera mittens. Left is a normal mitten with fingerless thumb, right keeps my index finger and thumb free to work the shutter and camera settings but keeps the rest toasty. Get the warmth of mittens with the functionality of fingerless gloves!

This bird caused quite a stir in northern Colorado this summer. After a large storm, this bird was spotted with a flock of white-faced ibises. Many local birders think it was a glossy ibis blown way off course, but not all were convinced. What does the #birds community think? Glossy or white-faced?

My #TwoSpeciesTuesday contribution, a blacked-capped chickadee mobbing an eastern screen owl. This is a locally famous spot in Northern Colorado we call the owl hotel, an owl nest in a tree cavity that itself happens to be shaped like an owl! #birds
