Scientists recently discovered vast freshwater reservoirs beneath the Atlantic seafloor, stretching off the U.S. East Coast from the states of New Jersey to Maine.

The find was “a beautiful scientific accident,” Brandon Dugan, co-chief scientist on the expedition, told Mongabay in a video call.

I was inspired to find out more about insect grooming after watching and photographing a hoverfly clean itself on a leaf, one sunny day in early October. It had just been feeding on ivy flowers and obviously needed a good dusting down.

Found some old photos taken with a an Olympus Tough TG-6. It is not bad but not as good as a close-up lens on a DSLR camera. Small Heath and Small tortoiseshells.

This bee (Megachilidae) has only been described from Thailand a couple of times apparently: Trachusa (Paraanthidium) longicornis. Doi Sutep, Monththan falls, Chiang Mai, Thailand.
