Birding, music, Walsall FC.
Birding since 2014. Ultra-local Midlands twitching only, usually to see birds found by Stuart Hares. UK 'life' list 245.

Clifton Pits - Barnacle Goose and as-yet-unidentified white goose with the enormous Greylag flock. Can't see anything more interesting sadly.

Weedy fields to the south are full of finches, including several nice Brambling wheezes.

If anyone still thinks BBC News is capable of balanced political coverage, here's another nail in that coffin.

Nothing says "couldn't get out much at the start of the year" better than this graph. Followed by my highest monthly total ever in April. Let's hope 2025 carries on that way. @birdtrack.bsky.social

Photo taken by a non-birding colleague who is not in the UK. ID confirmation welcome. I'm spending too much time looking at the bill tip.

2024 - 10th birding - very much a year of two halves. 182 species between 1st Jan and 1st June, but only 6 added after that.
Three new UK species, all on 13th Feb - Short-eared Owl, Snow Bunting, Velvet Scoter.

@btobirds.bsky.social 20 most widespread species I didn't see in 2024, inc 4 UK lifers

Any moth-ers know what this is? It's on our patio door.

Bartley today. Constant drizzle, low cloud. Little did we realise that Stewart's Reed Bunting was going to be the highlight. Effort mostly concentrated this morning. Kate braved the rain late afternoon but nothing new. 52 species, 5 observers. Not even a Great Crested Grebe. #westmidsalldayer

Stanklyn Lane - min 3 Whinchat in set-aside field opposite Heath Lane junction.
Thanks to those who've reported these birds over the last few days.

Understandable from a safety perspective, but the recently-installed hand rails across the middle of Frankley Reservoir will surely reduce the numbers of loafing gulls over the winter. Not much chance of finding Glaucous Gull this year. #WestMidsBirding
