NEW: For the last seven weeks, Naughty Dog has enacted mandatory overtime for staff to finish an internal demo of their next game, Intergalactic. The game won't be out until 2027, leaving some staff wondering: If they're crunching now, what will next year be like? www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Adjusted for inflation Spirited Away cost $22 million to make. The Triplets of Belleville cost $16.5 million, Cartoon Saloon's Wolfwalkers cost $14.28 million, and Oscar winner Flow cost only $4 million. These critically acclaimed, made by real people films, cost less than this pile of actual vomit.
OpenAI confirms they're helping make an AI-generated movie called 'Critterz'

• Goal is to finish production in 9 months
• Budget is ~$30M
• Plan is to debut the film at Canne
• 'Paddington 3' writers penned the script
• Art will be fed into Chat GPT 5 and other image models

Some employees at Unknown Worlds were told they were eligible for bonus payouts ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to seven figures if they hit their revenue target. They believed Subnautica 2 was on track for release this year.

Now, with the delay to 2026, the target seems unattainable

The studio's leadership had wanted to release the game this year but were ousted by Krafton last week.

Yeah according to this article it was to accommodate for the cost in developing AI.

So like, cutting out the parts of your company that make money to pay for the parts that don't.

I absolutely love 11 bit’s games and what they’ve done across the industry — but let the violent rejection of this GenAI corner-cutting be a warning to every dev how quickly your reputation stops mattering to players who do not want even 0.3% of this
We’ve seen a wide range of accusations regarding the use of AI-generated content in The Alters, and we feel it’s important to clarify our approach and give you more context.

Given the shitstorm that’s hit the teams behind The Alters, Magic: The Gathering, and Jurassic World Evolution 3 (among other titles), I’d be deeply intrigued to hear why someone would consider it a safe move to use generative AI on their project at this point - let alone go all-in on it.

Was expected. It was always an uphill battle but with Arc Raiders and Console!Tarkov launching by then and Bungie'a continuing worsening reputation, this game's future is pretty grim. Nevermind Bungie's, those are $3.6B thrown into the trashcan.

One element of the Dragon Age story that I want to emphasize: If the team had known in 2021 (after the single-player pivot) that they'd ship in Oct 2024, it'd be a much different game. Instead they were always under the impression they had to finish in 6-12 months, which led to all sorts of problems
NEW: What went wrong with Dragon Age: The Veilguard? Why was the writing so tonally inconsistent? Why did it feel so shallow? Why were there so few choices?

Really, after ten years of turbulence, it was a miracle that anything came out at all. This is the story: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
