First snow of the year and the dog is having fun with it (sound up) as are the neighborhood kids.

It’s that time of the year when the SPC Meso page winter weather parameters is worth a look.

We just installed our panels in July and have been quite pleased with the production so far, even with shortening days.

Here is Lowe’s. Not Menards but the same theme. You ever see that Bumble up there in AK.

While I’ll always mourn the loss of a bookstore, Raygun is where I bought this and other politically messaged t-shirts.

Sorry Alabama, there is something just wrong with a mayo-based bbq sauce.

First birds (goldfinches) at the feeders which have been up for three weeks. This new neighborhood with homes still being built is an ecological desert. I’m impatient to turn it around but I’ll have to wait until spring to do so. Planted 50 native bare root plants and 200 bulbs. 🌱

Side trips to Bellevue State Park where butterflies, including #monarchs, were still active; and 7 Hills Brewery in Dubuque for dinner. Brisket Bite sandwich and Cajun chicken soup with beer cheese nachos and Bernie’s Red Ale, are highly recommended.

With cool weather finally arriving here in the Midwest, it’s fall planting season. Lots of native bare root plants plus loads of bulbs. Future pictures next spring. 🌱

Not sure how many people showed up to today’s No Kings march in Davenport, but it exceeds the number from the previous pro-democracy rally. Line wound all around Vander Veer Park with more people in the park center. A frog, my “poster”, and a Lost Boy 🤣.

I’m ready for Saturday rain or dine.

The Isabella Tiger Moth (Pyrrharctia Isabella) and its larval form, the wooly bear caterpillar. Contrary to popular belief by some in the US, there is no correlation between the color of wooly bear bands (bands may be black or rust colored) and subsequent winter weather.

A few things going on in the new garden. Aralia cordata Sun King, rock - rose mica, Diervilla Kodiak Orange, Taxus - yew with Heuchera Wildberry. 🌱

I don’t have berries yet but I do have a few flowers if you look closely. What a great choice for full shade.

Sad to see someone you’re a fan of living in this world. In fact to generalize, among the many unfortunate aspects of the MAGA cult is seeing people you know waving this flag. But are we better off not knowing???

Visited the former USN 325 LST in Muscatine Iowa today. This ship participated in the landings on D-Day in WWII. Rather sobering to think there likely were men on that ship that day who gave their lives for our freedom today. Lest we forget who the true heroes are.
