Funnily enough I actually touched in this recently but to reiterate it depends on the thing and how long it will take to clear itself
Sometimes players misunderstanding is in character and will lead to further fun so you should let it run it's course

So I think the first thing is to discuss the term "spotlight" when it comes to TTRPGs
In my interpretation of it it essentially is who at any time is active and visible in a scene
Your goal is to try and spread that spotlight fairly around to those

Actual plays and in ttrpgs in general needs to better adapt/evolve for clarity as much like that xkcd comic points out, most folks in general aren't going to be as familiar with things as we expect
And at the end of the day making things clearer/more effective benefits us all

I don't think enough people realize that for many folks on disability they cannot risk having over a VERY low cap of money/property or they will lose their benefits nearly immediately
