People get so enraged over what Muslim women wear. Meanwhile no western women would have gone out without a headscarf or a hat until about the 1960s and certainly not to church. Any one who aspired to “respectability” whether male or female mostly wore gloves too.

I don’t even think it makes most people comfortable because almost nobody totally fits a binary world!
The only reason to simplify is to control. To keep people locked up and doing what you tell them to. Happy people are free and free people don’t just shut up and do what they are told.
