There was one sane choice this election (even for people like me who weren't in love with the Democratic party). And nothing seems to illustrate that more than the reactions to defeat.

I am just amazed at the contrast in reactions. No one is alleging conspiracy. No one is alleging theft. I imagine there won't be a violent insurrection attempt on Jan 6 led by Joe Biden, which, when it fails, it will be claimed it was actually conducted by right wing actors pretending to be Leftists

LOL had to be clear to him that there really was no place or job for him in that administration. I thought we were all clear on that after 2020, but I guess we haven't quite learned the lesson so... let's touch the stove again I guess and see if it's hot twice

Unfortunately, I think the car may have to drive all the way off the cliff and be in free fall before people realize what everyone else who didn't vote for Trump did BEFORE the election.

To paraphrase Twain: It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.

What seems like folly to everyone else with sense, seems like the moves of a Chess Grandmaster 4 steps ahead of everyone else to people who are convinced that they know more than they do. So yes, by way of winning the election we get more Dunning Kruger effect.

Matt Gaetz makes perfect sense then

...they tend to be (in my experience) simplistic thinkers, very linear, limited ability to critically interrogate anything. They find justification in their actions in social markers that aren't really relevant. (ex. I'm rich, therefore I am a good decision maker in all facets of life)

The way I look at it is this: we're dealing with people fueled by grievance and a perception that they have lost something - you cannot reason with them through that cloud. Anything that doesn't affirm their world view is part of what they're fighting against. In addition...

If they hit a floor, they'll start tunneling. I don't think you can imagine something so terrible that they won't give a shot. They will absolutely do this.

Nothing would surprise me about his unfitness or that of any other of Trump's nominees. If his nomination were withdrawn though, would they not just nominate another equally unfit candidate? They are picking amongst themselves. The pool of candidates isn't going to improve. This is who they are.

But I guess I'll hang around and see what this app is. Is is just Twitter redux with the landscape shifted to the left, or is people coming to grips with the world, disabusing themselves of notions that misled them, and seeking truth (even if it's uncomfortable).

We'll see

No one owes that a soft landing. No one owes that an audience. No one owes that any additional intellectual assessment that hasn't already been made. There are ideas you DON'T have to entertain because they have already been measured and found wanting. Repackaging them doesn't change their value

In an idea world, absolutely you would welcome opposing ideas and schools of thought. MAGA doesn't represent ideas or thought, it is reactionary grievance culture that had a battery put into it's back by a buffoon get on a stage speaking out loud the stupidity and bigotry others held in their hearts
November 21, 2024 at 3:29 PM
I see some aspects of it that are promising, for example, people openly saying they don't want MAGAs here. I've already seen the concern trolling "you should always welcome opposing ideas". Pfft. These sentiments cannot simply be uttered in a vacuum, they can't be made devoid of context
