Classic gothic horror, sci-fi, fantasy and mystery enthusiast. Lover of tabletop and video games old & new, but mostly old.

Hoping for the best for the world and vulnerable populations in these dangerous "interesting" times.

"The Mummy" (1932) was the 2nd Universal Monster film I ever saw, as after the "The Wolf Man" (1st movie I ever saved up money to buy on VHS) it was the 2nd I ever came across. A standalone film, the other Universal mummy movies follow a different mummy & mythology. Hammer films would conflate the 2

Zita Johann in a publicity shot for "The Mummy" (1932) 3rd in the classic Universal Monsters cycle of horror films. Elements of a reincarnated love that would be ubiquitous in later Dracula adaptations show up here decades before Dan Curtis incorporated them into "Dark Shadows" &hisTV "Dracula" film

Very true, but also side note- Sypha is an interesting case because her being a woman was originally a hidden plot twist. Her gender was intentionally obfuscated in the artwork and language of the game until you get her ending, in which she takes her long hair down and leans on Trevor.

A dystopian story about a small band of freedom fighters resisting a fascist dictatorship that has literally turned most of the population into unfeeling, mindless robotic slaves. There's also a blue hedgehog that can run really fast, but he's pretty much the least interesting character.

In the original Belmont origin story "Castlevania Legends" it was heavily implied that the Belmonts were tied to Dracula because they were all descended from him by way of Alucard and Sonia Belmont, who deserved so much better.

One game I've been reading that you might enjoy is "Mazes & Minotaurs", a kind of "alternate history" game that images what would happen if Gygax and Arneson had been inspired by Greek Mythology and Peplum movies rather than Conan and Tolkien. The system seems great & whole game line is free!

Yea I prefer GMing but it's nice to play every now & then! I started with 3.5 & have mostly run Pathfinder 1e but have also had success running my current group n"TOON" & "It Came from the Late Late Late Show". Wanted to run BECMI for a while & happy to finally get to, most seem2 love how fast it is

1 interesting thing about "Undead" I didn't mention is that it was released the same year(81) as TSR microgame "Vampyre" which has the same premise. Game dev taking time & being what it is one wonders who stole from whom. Either or both games presumably inspired the more famous Fury of Dracula in 87

Casino Royale was adapted into a not-quite-feature-length-made-for-TV movie in the 1950s (as part of the anthology series "Climax!") if you count that. I'm not a big Bond fan though, I just know that because I AM a big Peter Lorre fan and he was in that one as Le Chiffre

I'm usually reminded of this old comic.

That said, I hated most music I heard on the radio growing up and am just not interested in most new music. GHOST is great though, easily my favorite band to come out of the last 25 years.

25 year old promotional wallpaper for Red Alert 2. Definitely would have used this back in the day had I come across it.

I know it's not a "soda" but was hoping for a sec this was about Ecto-Cooler. Alas no, it's Mr. Pibb. Which I'd be happier about if they weren't also getting rid of Pibb Xtra, which is like Dr. Pepper with a cinnamon kick. Mr. Pibb itself is just a Dr. Pepper clone. Oh well I hardly drink pop anyway

I do not remember those but I have a couple issues of this somewhere. Plucked from the bargain bin of my then-local comic shop around 2010 out of morbid curiosity.

*shudders in remembrance* "Hey kids, wanna see the slides from our vacation!" I remember teachers trying to pass that garbage off as "educational" hah.

Was never able to get a GURPS game run, my fault for letting my players get overwhelmed because they said they wanted to fully make their own characters. Next time I'm just gonna hand them pre-gens to start and use class/race templates and short curated skill lists from there.

Yesterday I watched the sPoOkiest film of them all, "My Dinner With Andre" (1981) trapped for almost 2 hours of dinner conversation between a struggling playwrite & a rich guy who's been struggling with some combination of nervous breakdown & midlife crises (+prob drug use tho that's never explicit)

Been playing through "A Vampyre Story" w/my partner & he loves it. I'm enjoying it to despite how terrible I am at adventure games lol. Wonderful art & atmosphere, & cornball humor that mostly lands. Doing some research I was surprised this 2008 game is now getting a sequel, actually looks good to!

Such a catchy song. But that's actually the Munster's family car the "Munster Coach" he's driving in the video. He also used it under the name Dragula when he was a playable character in Twisted Metal 4.

Finally got to run some BECMI / Rules Cyclopedia D&D for a spooky season one-shot. Fun was had by all!

Well, maybe not the townsfolk who were overrun by wererats. But other than them fun was had by all! And the players want to turn the one-shot into a full campaign.

Fun fact: ugly face is Uncle Creepy. Spiritual successor to the Crypt Keeper made by many of the same ppl. From Warren Publishing's b&w comic "magazine"(to avoid comic censorship)CREEPY that ran 1960s-80s. I believe the original character design was by Frazetta, who also did many early CREEPY covers
