Musician, sailor, Shetlander. Just getting started! Autodidact. Norn language. North Atlantic, South Pacific. Trad, jazz, world, roots. EDI matters.
If you're gonna be featured in the Guardian, make sure you're barefoot on a Shetland beach with a coffee, a guitar and a sheep.

Tbh I'd have been happy to be quoted using stronger language!

I'm loving books even more than usual this past month or two. Here's a selection of what I've been excited about recently!

The Hymhus - a beacon of warmth on a cold night in Bigton, Shetland!

Come join us there tonight for my performance of #TheSpringbankVoyage - good company, music, stories and fine coffee!

... in 2025 we'll be able to offer six bursary placements on our voyages to young/disadvantaged musicians.

I feel very lucky to work w tall ship Lady of Avenel, dozens of amazing communities across the coast of Scotland, and play music with a great and growing group of regular shipmates! (2/2)

I started 'Sessions and Sail' in 2018 - a series of tall-ship voyages taking musicians to sea and celebrating the music and culture of Scotland (and beyond!)

I'm super proud of this project, and the way it's developing - we now have El Roderick on board as Bursary Scheme manager (1/2)

I had a v nice breakfast at this cafe in Aberdeen. (Belmont Street - Go!) The family that run it are great, and absolutely passionate about good Venezuelan food.

Had a lovely chat with Glenda about food, Scotland, family, Venezuela. Came away with such a positive feeling going into my day.

I'm performing some music/sea related stuff in Shetland on Saturday evening.

The forecast suggests the wind may be roaring outside for added atmosphere... We'll be all cosy in the lovely Hymhus!

Not sure if many Shetland friends are on Bluesky yet, but nice to share what I'm doing regardless!
