- more like character studies over time than a real story
- minus 0.5 because of the abrupt ending. didn’t hate the abrupt ending, but was disappointed because i wanted more
- lovely, nuanced, and academically & creatively interesting look into the commodification of art and artists

felker-martin weaves in pop culture references and contemporary trans jargon without closing off the first person narratives to the average reader

The irony is that LA got their water in the 1930s when the Metropolitan Water District lobbied for building the Parker Dam and diverting the water. The dam flooded the Chemehuevi Indian Reservation and forced them onto the Colorado River Indian Reservation.
