finished dredge last night 10/10

wish it wasn’t so expensive otherwise i’d have bought the dlc too, but the game is well worth the money imo

creative animation and story. not so much horror as jumpscare (though there were some) as it was creepy and sinister, having thalassophobia made it more fun

companion 4/5

yes female sex/girlfriend robot trope is overdone, yes it’s primarily used by male creators, yes the implications of such a trop used by men means the resulting work is going to lack nuance…

BUT the movie had solid plot and dialogue, pacing was great, gore was 10/10

shepherd king series by rachel gillig — 2/5

interesting world building, kind of cool, could have been darker (too much Y/A and not enough gothic fantasy horror)

so many grotesque implications not explored

as i lay dying is my favorite book, but confusing asf to read the first time
sirens & muses by antonia angress (4.5/5)

- multi-perspective story that isn’t confusing like “as i lay dying”
- realizing i’ve been reading lots of multi-perspective stories lately
- queer but not like manhunt, also explores coming out and persecution in a less overt way

one of them days (4.5/5)

witty, interesting, fun, not boring

like she was in “nope,” keke palmer is perfect in a duo. excited to see more well done films with black people and culture that aren’t race-blind castings or about slavery…

Our writer Vaughn Wright tells the story of what it was like when Luigi Mangione showed up at his Pennsylvania prison. It took a few weeks to get this out because we had to rely on postal mail to ask for the story and get it back without creating problems.
When Luigi Mangione Came to Our Prison
A dispatch from SCI Huntingdon in Pennsylvania, which was briefly part of the biggest crime story in the nation.

the northman

quality of the film 5/5
personal enjoyment 2.5/5
gore 5/5

personally was too distracted by the not great accents and sporadic old slavic/norse peppered in the english

there wasnt enough exposition for me to care about the revenge story

loved the gore though

manhunt, 5/5

nuanced dive into transness, loved how there were multiple trans characters whose actions & perspectives weren't a monolith

the horror was perfect, i haven't read such squishy and visceral descriptions of gore in years

Under the GOP's SAVE Act, Tribal IDs would NO LONGER be accepted as valid identification to register to vote.

This is a direct attack on the voting rights of Native American communities.

The irony is that LA got their water in the 1930s when the Metropolitan Water District lobbied for building the Parker Dam and diverting the water. The dam flooded the Chemehuevi Indian Reservation and forced them onto the Colorado River Indian Reservation.
