A government health minister just announced plans to use the private sector to build and maintain neighbourhood health centres.

This is PFI 2.0.

PFI is an unforgivable waste of public money - straight into private profit and at the expense of patient care.

Happy birthday NHS - but in the face of a 10 year plan to replace drs and hospitals with AI and “community hubs”, likely funded by PFI, we must fight for a fully publicly funded, fully publicly provided NHS.

Great work from @newstatesman.com to highlight some costly and harmful practices behind the “fall in waiting lists” that we constantly hear about.

Having tests ordered by a GP is NOT the same as seeing a specialist btw.

@socialisthealth.bsky.social

The NHS will be paid to cut waiting lists – at great cost to patient safety
Are some people destined to become collateral damage so that lists “fall” faster?

The 2 child benefit cap must be scrapped. Disgraceful to see this level of child poverty in the 6th richest country in the world.
Six out of every seven children in the UK's most deprived areas living in poverty.

Result of political choices - low wages, austerity, unchecked profiteering, benefit cuts, inequitable distribution of wealth.

Future blighted.

Govts listen to donors/rich, ignore the rest.
Six out of seven UK kids live in poverty - map shows how your area fares
A record-high 4.5million children across the country were found to have been living in poverty in the year ending March 2024 - 121,000 more children than the year prior

Completely agree @alonghurst.bsky.social. In the UK we have seen an expansion of urgent care centres at the expense of access to ED care and GP’s. No advantage for patients at all.

#PatientsNotProfits

@socialisthealth.bsky.social
Someone please inform the Alberta government that more episodic (urgent) care is not what Alberta needs

The evidence is clear that ongoing care with a consistent team improves outcomes, reduces hospital use, lowers costs

🚨The urgent care model is an invention of US for-profits🚨
Today the UcP confirmed that they will be going ahead with their new model for Urgent Care Centers in Alberta, starting with Airdrie.

This means private, for profit operators receiving taxpayer dollars to deliver emergency medical care.

Oh look. Same story in New Zealand.
Outsourcing surgeries to private providers will cost at least twice as much as just funding the public health system. Private providers need to make a profit, it's just business. #nzpol #bhn #freehealthcare www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...
