I've GOT to get to the bottom of this thing
His first three or so books I really liked. Devils just felt like him doing a fantasy dirty dozen and so all the characters are mostly just a collection of quicks and tics and it never felt like it was going in a direction fans of his wouldn't see a mile away.

Yeah, between this one, finally finishing Leigh Bardugo's Hellbent and Joe Abercrombie's Devils, I feel like this has been my year for reading books whose authors have come to regard their chosen subject matter with something between snide disdain and dismissive boredom.
