I was born in 1979.
I grew up in the 1980’s and my dad had a factory job and when he would get laid off from work because of a bad economy life was not fun at all.
I never felt like we were truly poor at times, but my mom did a shit load of cutting out coupons and finding cheap clothes.

I'm a deaf person who was alive in the 80's and 90's. While the current day still has significant issues, things are incredibly better access-wise and attitude-wise than they were back then.
