"Pollsters conduct regular polls because they serve as advertising. The media loves them because they’re easy clicks. And we are all, after years of rolling chaos and a government that felt like it could collapse any day, used to thinking that they matter."

But they don't.
Against polling
This week: I appreciate the irony, but I’ve decided we’re spending too much time thinking about the polls. Also: yet another set of British counties; and some types of murder.

This is what I think of as a specific kind of ignorance that heavily affects young white guys who work in tech. It says “i don’t know about this, so I assume no one else does either.” It’s new to them, so it must be new to everybody!

For my sins, I decided to write up some of my reactions about the DeepSeek shock today. Other than trying to explain what on earth is going on, I also try to think through three political economy consequences of today: 1/n

Great thread. Just from professional, anecdotal evidence it seemed very unlikely.

Completely agree with this. It's part of a much bigger conversation than the terrible referring decision. Trying to conflate the 2 devalues both.
Online abuse of any kind should not be tolerated.

But this statement is clearly a tactic by the PGMOL to deflect & to try and silence pundits who have been, for the first time, universal in their condemnation of the red card decision.

The PGMOL exists to protect refs, not to make the game better.

Diving deep into the nexus of mental health & substance use, my article @ConversationUK advocates for holistic treatment approaches. 🌿 It's time for a paradigm shift—towards integrated care rooted in compassion & understanding.

For people with mental illness, drugs and alcohol can be a key survival strategy. I’ve learned they shouldn’t have to ‘get clean’ to get treatment
This is the moment of truth. John’s story is no longer trapped in the clinical pages of a case file. ‘I’ve lost everything,’ he says. ‘I might as well be dead.’

I first found twitter while the Arab Spring was happening. It was suddenly this incredible tool in keeping up to date with the world. This place already feels a bit similar.
