Oh damn, that sounds messy as well. And yes, the problem would have been a hotel reservation and a return ticket with a different carrier but no way to actually get to Jersey first.

Blue Islands went into receivership this weekend and cancelled all flights. So things would have gotten messy had I booked these as a one way flight to Jersey.

Ah, pretty much the same as me then, with slightly different math. I'm at 15.5 and can only take 5 forward. (The 4 weeks is because I only work four-fifths).
