It seems going forward the new Democratic Whip is the Republican party. If Republicans can reliably get 8 votes from Senate Democrats by weaponizing the shutdown every two months, then those 8 senators are effectively Republicans.

I don't want to hear about how improvements to policy need to take incremental steps over many years ever again. Obviously we can just walk in with an extra large sharpie and tax the rich 90% or whatever the hell we want. There's no reason not to.
