Fun #Arachtober news! This cool little harvester is a first sighting of the species on iNat!

Harvesters are arachnids, but they are probably more closely related to mites than spiders. Spiders have a segmented body but these leggy friends don't.

The greenbottle blue tarantula (Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens) is a species of spider in the tarantula family, Theraphosidae. It is native to the Paraguaná Peninsula in the Venezuelan state of Falcón.

Thwaitesia argentiopunctata, the 'mirror- or sequined-spider', native to Australia, has scales coated in guanine, the same as the "G" base in your DNA.

Guanine forms rhomboid crystals with a high index of refraction, making it a biological 'mirror coating'. Sparkly!

Found a bunch of debris on the underside of a leaf and thought the spider might be dead, but it wriggled out and I got a few photos. Turns out it's a ghost spider and one of only three observations of the species on iNat. #Arachtober
