i think to understand the meaning of the birthright citizenship clause to the framers of the 14th amendment, you have to understand significance of dred scott to the civil war republican party. dred scott wasn't just a bad ruling, it was understood as a rejection of the declaration itself.

The hepatitis B vaccine had been recommended for all newborns since 1991.

From 1990-2019, acute hepatitis B infections reported among children and teens fell 99 percent. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/16/w...
Breaking: After contentious debates and three failed attempts at a vote, a federal vaccine committee decided on Friday to end the decades-long recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

Slotkin: Do you believe there is such a thing as an illegal order? Something the president could ask you to do that violates the constitution?

Hegseth: Anyone of any party could give an illegal order.

Slotkin: Will you stand in the breach if Trump does?

Hegseth: I reject the premise

The newest committee member, Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), has the floor now.

Slotkin: No president has the right to use the military in a way that violates the constitution. She observes that Hegseth will be the one person standing in the breach if Trump gives an illegal order.

Hegseth: Those are false anonymous claims...

King: Should the law incorporating the Geneva Conventions not be on the books?

Hegseth: We must follow rules, but we don't need burdensome rules of engagement that make it impossible for us to win these wars

King: Are you saying Geneva Conventions shouldn't be followed in the future?

Hegseth: Rules about how we treat prisoners, etc., in the geneva convention is important but we have to acknowledge that how was fought when they were drafted is not the reality of how war is fought now..

Massive shoutout out to whoever handles the Royal Canadian Air Force’s social media account. They responded to every single comment on their already very solid Trans Day of Remembrance post and they responded like this…

THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

Another way of looking at this is if each of the US’s 19,000 cities, towns & villages had their own solar thermal plant, THE MEAN AVERAGE would be 2sq km or .77sq miles.

Less than a square mile doesn’t seem so bad, does it.
One ~182km x ~211km solar thermal plant could provide all of America’s electricity, including a fully-electrified land transport sector.

100% clean power from just 0.39% of U.S land.

That’s why renewables are constantly under attack from the fossil fuel industry and their paid mouthpieces.

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

You paid: $6,316.86
You owe: $99,674.28
Interest paid: $5,991.14
Principal paid: $325.72

After 12 payments your amount owed isn't even close to 1 payment amount less.

This is the thing that drives me insane. Things aren't normal; this isn't politics as usual. And when you accurately describe everything this administration is doing, it's so lawless, radical, and authoritarian that *you* sound like a partisan extremist.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

I’m voting no on the continuing resolution that would double healthcare premiums for 20 million Americans, kick 15 million people off Medicaid & allow 50,000 Americans to die unnecessarily every year.

All to give $1 trillion in tax breaks for billionaires.

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!

That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.
