Saw the movie on Jacinda’s years as prime minister today. Really well put together
Makes you appreciate how unlikely her ascent was & how tumultuous those years as PM were.
Despite it all, she was so right for that moment in NZ’s history.
It reinforced my view that we were lucky to have had her.

Met Elvis the peacock on my walk this evening.
And he was rather annoyed at the cars zipping past.
Spat the dummy shortly after this image was taken & flew up to his tree.
Glad that he has someplace safe to retreat to.

YOU AGAIN!??

- 2 of 2 -

We spoke again later. But i’ll always remember how observant Jane was.
Up close, she was an amazing, caring person.
And one of the finer examples of our species.

She is gone now.
Our world is much poorer for it.

YOU AGAIN!??

Mid-90s. Wellington, New Zealand. I went to 2 separate talks by my childhood hero and all round amazing human being, Jane Goodall.
As she walked on to the podium at the second presentation, she stopped, looked at me and said “you again!??”
I turned red.

Mid-90s.
The bosses and I are in Utah. They decide to head to Sundance. We get to the gift shop. Hungry we sit down for lunch.
Does he ever come here she asks. Nah, says the other.
Ten minutes later, she’s nearly choking.
I look behind me.
7 feet away, in the doorway, is a smiling Robert Redford.

I now understand why David was so David.
Here’s who he hung out with.

I remember a time when it seemed easier for most of the world to act collectively for the the right reason.

Before the current Israel-Palestine horror, I remember Rwanda, Bosnia, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh.

A momento from a time when more seemed possible.

This is really old.
I’ve carried this for decades.
But it still holds true.

Case in point: the coverage of the current violence in Middle East by western msm.
And our media & political class.

Tim Heatherington and journalist Sebastian Junger won the Grand Jury prize at Sundance for RESTREPO in 2010. It was a powerful & intimate documentary about the war in Afghanistan.
Far removed from what we typically see on the screen. Immersive storytelling was Tim's thing.

Came to the series after reading the stunning book - SAY NOTHING - by Patrick Radden Keefe.

It's a gritty retelling of The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
It added so much to my understanding of those times.
I've found it quite moving.
So much tragedy & loss for so many.
