I was obviously added to some starter packs to explain such a huge increase of followers overnight. It’s wild! Welcome!

I guess you have an interest in legal stuff. Here I’ll post in English and French mainly about my research in financial crime & my interests (law, justice, economy, politics...).
Just remembered that when he was my age, Beccaria had already published “On Crimes and Punishments”

Ce serait comique, si ce n’était pas tragique.
Le Premier ministre Sébastien Lecornu a remis lundi sa démission à Emmanuel Macron, qui l'a acceptée, a annoncé lundi l'Elysée dans un communiqué.

The consequences of this decision, death threats faced by juges, minimization of the facts by the political class, the questioning of the independence of justice, demonstrate once again how difficult a certain type of criminality is to prosecute.
A French court convicted former President Nicolas Sarkozy of criminal conspiracy in a trial that examined whether his 2007 presidential campaign received funding from Moammar Gadhafi's regime.

I am currently reading a PhD dissertation written in the 1950s, at a time when entire passages could be in Latin without any translation needed. O tempora, o mores, my memories of the Latin version are far from sufficient for that.

The shortsightedness of EU officials is really appalling here. There’s an actual lack of anticipation on potential drawbacks of this so-called simplification. Omnibus could possibly not pass proportionality and necessity test and create more legal uncertainty, contrary to the claimed goal.

I spoke this week at the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Conference organized jointly by University of Derby and INTERPOL.

I discussed connection between money laundering and human trafficking and to what extent AML measures are, if effective, at least useful tools to tackle this phenomenon.

Il y a une place spéciale en enfer pour les gens qui font « répondre à tous » quand ils envoient un mail. De même pour ceux qui continuent à répondre dans la chaîne de mail en ne retirant pas tous les autres destinataires en copie.

Almost 8k followers here, out of nowhere. This is huge and insane 😅

Nonetheless, welcome everybody. As mentioned, you’ll mainly read here about legal stuff. I post in English and French and generally about my research in financial crime & my interests (law, justice, economy, politics...).

Relatively discreet on this network lately but I am currently very busy with legislation about seizures and confiscations in criminal matters, on the one hand, and preparing my course on CSR, on the other. And actually it’s quite welcomed considering the not so cheerful news worldwide.

Says the VP of a country that owes its independence to France
France and the UK, “some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 20 or 30 years.”

The UK lost 457 soldiers in Afghanistan, fighting alongside the US, and 179 soldiers in Iraq.
Hard to overstate what an insult this is to the Brits.
(Also wrong on FR obviously)

The EU Commission has published its Omnibus proposals to “simplify business environment”. It’s a methodical dismantling of the EU Green deal. This so-called “simplification” is actually a thorough deregulation.

The German elections have produced a clear result: Friedrich Merz will govern with a majority of CDU, CSU and SPD. The not-so-grand coalition plus the Greens are 7 seats short of a 2/3 majority to change the debt brake in the constitution or to add a new special purpose vehible.

So what now?

I’ve just read @annmlipton.bsky.social paper on legitimization of shareholder primacy. Brilliant contribution on the increasing politicization of corporate governance and the challenge it raises for corporate law. Enriching analyses even beyond Delaware. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

A US VP muscling in EU internal affairs, interfering in political elections and criticising countries which are supposed to be US closest partners.

The US are no longer an ally and are currently becoming an actual threat to the EU.
