Here's a little bit about me.

I'm Canadian.
I live on Vancouver Island. I'm in my 50s. GenX.
I'm autistic, ADHD, NLD, and a bunch of other acronyms.
I've had type 1 diabetes for 50-plus years.
I'm a queer Trekkie and Whovian.

November is Diabetes month. I have had type 1 diabetes for more than 50 years. I have gone from peeing in a bowl to test the sugar in my urine to being able to see my blood sugar on my Fitbit watch.

I'm neurodivergent. Some people mistakenly think "neurodivergent" is a synonym for autism it's not.

I am autistic. My other diagnoses include ADHD, non-verbal learning disability, a processing disorder, depression and anxiety. All of these are under the neurodivergent umbrella.

I tried an online doctor. He told me that I had depression and anxiety and didn't have ADHD. Then he said that if I had "done okay" with no medication for 50 years, then I don't need medication.

I have not had a family doctor for four years, but even when I had one, he wouldn't prescribe medication for anything, ever. I can't get a family doctor. At least a million people in my province don't have a doctor. There's a shortage of psychiatrists,and most of them only work with family doctors.

I was diagnosed with ADHD two years ago. I don't have any form of treatment. No doctor. No psychiatrist. No medication or therapy of any kind. I know why I'm having these problems, but I can't do anything about them.

I hate boredom. I really hate boredom. But when I get bored, I can't make up my mind on how to stop being bored. I wind up channel surfing and/or scrolling on my phone and complaining about being bored.

Autistic me likes to have everything planned and organized. ADHD me likes to throw caution to the wind and rush into things head first. Autism doesn't like surprises. ADHD loves (good) surprises. Autism doesn't like change. ADHD doesn't like sameness. See the problem?

I'm autistic and ADHD (AUHD). Either one is challenging on its own. Together, they're a struggle.
