About two miles of track is due to be built via a level crossing across the A21 (!!) and (approximately) these fields near Salehurst. You will then be able to ride on a delightfully dozy rural steam line from Robertsbridge to Bodiam and Tenterden (hopefully by 2027 or so)

Alighted at Robertsbridge station today to have a stroll in the woods, and found the Rother Valley Railway were having an open day. They are upgrading their station to prepare for the upcoming construction of the link to the Kent & East Sussex Railway….

Since I was in the vicinity, I popped down for a look at the magnificent but largely unsung Welwyn Viaduct. The longest and highest on the (Victorian) Great Northern Railway, I read on the info panel. Now, along with the Welwyn tunnels, a two-track bottleneck on the ECML.

The dragon’s lair (play with the sound up!): trains passing under a vent hole of the tunnel on the East Coast Main Line north of Welwyn.

It is an odd effect as the hissing starts very abruptly. If two trains pass in the tunnel (as here) the dragon gets extra angry…

These red and green lights on pedestrian level crossings are such a good idea. I like the new triangular sign too, which clearly shows the potential danger.

Considerably cheaper than the Eurostar…first class on TGV InOui from Gare du Nord to Lille Flandres, complete with takeaway coffee from Pret a Manger and the London Standard crossword
