This afternoon a very tame female Black-tailed deer was back munching our Otto Luyken Laurel bushes by our driveway. She has visited this same spot the past few days. I’m 15’ away, she knows where I am. Very docile meandering around the front yard. 🦌

Always checking the lawn before mowing, I again almost stepped on an adult Northern red-legged frog hiding in the tall grass. He was camera shy and quickly scampered into the bushes. 🐸

A Common Teasel flower head backlit by the sun. Found growing in a roadside ditch yesterday. Common Teasel is considered a noxious weed in Washington State, but also a great seed source for birds.

The cone-like flower head can be up to 4 inches tall, occur singly on the tops of stems, and are persistent long after the seeds form. Under the flower heads are long, narrow, prickly flower parts that curve upward and form a "cage" around the head. The backlit sunlight highlights the fine details of the flower. Part of the Honeysuckle family. Background is blurry with other flower heads.

Nice! I'm curious if they are edible and the taste.

Our ornamental crabapple 'Snowdrift' tree is loaded with hard, bitter 1" apples this year. Not really for human consumption, but the deer and bears go nuts for them when the apples start smelling like wine in the fall.

As I was mowing our backyard grass yesterday afternoon, this 9” Red-tailed Hawk wing or tail feather was found in the middle of our lawn. A rush of emotions when I picked up this feather, almost like empowerment. 🪶
