I gotta say that the NCGOP did this in NC years ago and it the story noted that they drew up the maps with "surgical precision" to dilute Black votes.

The impact...no matter how we vote Republicans will have a majority. There hasn't been democracy in NC for awhile.

A confederate museum in NC was destroyed by a tree and they are lighting them up in the comments! And OF COURSE white people are donating to save the museum artifacts.

Anyway... I love seeing these evil spaces being destroyed.

The US uses prison labor now. This is the current law about prison labor in NC! Prison IS slavery (cc 13th amendment).

If you are incarcerated in NC you MUST work and can't be paid more than $1. And this is legal

This popped up in my FB memories, but I wrote this when I was in middle school.

Didn't have the language to describe patriarchy, misogynist, sexism but I KNEW I wasn't ok with being socialized to be some man's wife.

Younger me would love who I grew up to be.

Westervelt and Dr. Cindy Brooks Dollar. 116 pp. Black women's dual subordinate identities (black and woman) create unique experiences in America which are often erased or ignored. Studies focusing on race center on black men, while studies on gender focus on white women. Richie's (1985, 2012) trap of loyalty, the cultural and emotional exploitation of black women, helps to provide insight into black women's unique perspectives in America. The trap of loyalty consists of three defining qualities: (1) Black women are more privileged than black men; (2) Black women are expected to endure their abuse in silence; and (3) Black women are expected to buffer their family from racism. This study answers the question: In what ways is the black woman 's experience in the United States today defined, or not defined, by the trap of loyalty? In this study, I conduct one-on-one interviews with 8 black women and femmes to examine the absence or presence of the three defining qualities. Findings indicate that black women and femmes are expected to prioritize race above all other identities, often meaning an erasure of gender issues and the endurance of abuse in silence. The erasure of black women's experiences and issues continues to leave them vulnerable to racism and sexism in America."

My research examines who is allowed to engage in violence in settler colonial societies and who is expected to be peaceful.

To explore this perspective, examine the social positions of Black MaGes (marginalized genders), children, and incarcerated individuals and how their (lower) positionality within a white supremacist cis-heteropatriarchal society impacts their violent interpersonal interactions."
