How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

If you can’t keep your caucus in line on fighting for healthcare, a moral obligation and an 80/20 issue.. you have no business in leadership.
America is in the midst of a Republican-made health care crisis—a crisis so severe, so urgent, and so devastating for American families that I cannot support a continuing resolution that fails to address it.

I am voting NO.

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!

That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

As Democrats get their votes lined up and talking points ready, it’s important to remember they’re working together to lessen the fallout from their angry base.

In March (see below), Schumer voted to advance the bill but didn’t *technically* vote for final passage.

It’s dishonest bullshit.
"But Schumer and seven other Democrats who voted to advance the bill earlier Friday voted against passing it."

"Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire) was the only Democrat who voted for the bill. King also voted for it. Sen. Rand Paul (Kentucky) was the only Republican who voted against it."

One thing from our piece on Saturday: Sen. Shaheen is leading the Senate cave caucus. She's on the appropriations committee and wants whatever little goodies she got in her appropriations bill passed into law. As we wrote:

I called them both! New Yorkers, so should you

(To reach your state's senators, you can always go through the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121)
Oh for the love of

Sharing, since I just googled these so I could leave angry voicemails telling these motherfuckers to hold the line

Schumer's DC office number: 202-224-6542

Gillibrand's DC office number: (202) 224-4451
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

“Better to lose on our terms than risk winning.”
“People are blaming republicans for food prices and flight cancellations and health insurance costs and are furious about gilded ballrooms and Gatsby parties and the president is falling asleep on tv and is the most deeply unpopular president in history, time to cave” is a hell of an argument

A strong leader would feel emboldened by last week’s elections. But not Chuck.

Decades of experience have taught him that when you feel momentum rising, it’s actually the perfect time to fold. They’ll never see it coming.

Can’t coach these instincts.

Schumer doing his best to drive Dem approval rating into the teens
I assumed that since Schumer asked for such a pathetically low number on the ACA extension (1 year) it would get whittled down to maybe four months and pinky promises.

But if this reporting is accurate, they're not even going to try for four months. They're just going to take the pinky promises.

Preventable illness will become advanced disease. Diagnoses will come late. Treatment be less effective and exponentially more expensive.

Those insured will see costs skyrocket as hospitals raise prices to recoup losses on care for people unable to pay.

More people will die younger. Golden age!
The past 24 hours really exposed the Republicans’ non-plan on health care. Since they were unable to repeal the ACA, they intend to make health insurance premiums skyrocket so people can’t afford health care, which will ultimately make emergency rooms their primary care doctors.
