Very moving tributes to the late Nick Powell today at the Pierhead in Cardiff. He was a much admired political journalist and a great NUJ colleague. We’ll miss his steady leadership and dry wit on the Welsh Executive Council. RIP Nick

Spending loads of time at WWT at the moment, immersing myself in the landscape. I’m trying to learn the different species on the scrapes, and on this visit I’m sure I spotted redshank and teal, lapwing and shelduck - beautiful sounding names that are bound to creep their way into the poems.

How I spent my Saturday: at BBC Central Square in Cardiff, chairing the NUJ’s Welsh Executive Council meeting (this photo from our last meeting, but the Dalek and Tardis are still there!) We talked public interest journalism, AI, newspaper redundancies and lots more #nuj #wales

Let's make Bluesky the home of independent news.

Unlike X, where algorithms crush links & push content you don't want, news flourishes here. Particularly news from independent & non-profit outlets.

If you prefer news away from MSM, here's a starter pack to share with valuable & verified accounts.

The government can't ignore the overwhelming case for media reform.

To tackle climate change, challenge tech billionaires, and end economic & social injustices, we need new media policies that break with the failures of the past

I'm reading this by @raehowells.bsky.social

Not very far in yet but much of it chimes with my experience growing up on the edge of an underappreciated common in the foothills of Eryri. I'm already making plans to visit West Cross!

I'm writing a poem about this beautiful thing, a plate discovered in a sewer, carrying a message through the ages that we'll all go back there one day. It's the flourish at the end that wins it for me.

Here's more about it, if you're interested: www.londonmuseum.org.uk/collections/...
