I run a very small nonprofit that provides residencies to women writers, especially those from communities historically excluded from these opportunities. Our budget is too small to qualify for most of the "big" grants, and we're in Alaska, 1/2

Soft secession. Blue states building parallel systems, withholding cooperation, and creating facts on the ground that render federal authority meaningless within their borders.

The most profitable years I had as a freelancer were during COVID lockdowns. People wanted entertainment, had more free time and needed decorative distractions. Grants were free flowing and people were spending less money on gas, transportation and car maintenance.
Your art isn’t bad just because it’s not selling right now.

We’re in a recession and people don’t know when they’re gonna eat next, nobody can afford fun things because the economy is crumbling. It’s going to be hard a while.

It has been a busy Summer. We grow most of our own food and put most of it up. Lots of branching and freezing and canning. The gardens and greenhouses are now empty, so its time for Art.
