I really enjoyed the Will Darling adventures, which is where I started with her work, but Band Sinister is cute and stands well on its own, while The Magpie Lord and its sequels are also a lot of fun. She's great at balancing adventure plots with compelling romance.

In a similar vein to Cat Sebastian, I've really enjoyed Jess Everlee and KJ Charles. Allie Therin seems promising, and I'm really enjoying the Johannes T. Evans I'm reading right now. I'm also relatively new to the genre and relatively picky, as this list maybe suggests 😅

I'm given to understand that this is kind of the Jack Reacher description? Like, big and muscular and "looks dumb" but is actually really smart. I can think of a few other writers with similar guys (Frank Miller, Andrew Vachss), so maybe that?

I definitely recommend it: repeat play offers the possibility of thorough exploration of the themes of the game

Ah cool! Both very good in very different ways, but still I think falling under the umbrella you put up here. The only reason I'm not sure about Lemberg's Birdverse is because there are many cities mentioned in the various stories and novel/las, though tonally it's absolutely in the wheelhouse.

The Saint of Bright Doors, for sure. August Clarke's Metal from Heaven. The Dead Cat Tail Assassins I feel confident about fitting in here; The Unbalancing slightly less so, though I think it/Birdverse in general merit consideration.
