OK, so it's been a while since reading 'Black House' by Peter Straub and @stephenking.bsky.social and guys, I am struggling.
It feels like I am reading every single word and soaking in the atmosphere but....also feels like there is a whole story going in that I am too dumb to get?

Nursing is so very difficult right now and it's desperately sad seeing those who struggled so hard to get through their courses to find no jobs, and people like me in jobs that will take everything you have and keep on on cutting little bits off you until you aren't 'you'anymore.

'Carrion Comfort' by Dan Simmons is one of the finest vampire novels of our time and it's a hill I am prepared to die on!
