Good morning

My parents (both dead) married on this day in 1961. She had run away to London from Shropshire. His family had fled India for Pakistan in 1947. He came to Britain in the mid-1950s as a student & stayed.

They would both have said a big fu*k off to Shabana Mahmood and those she’s trying to imitate.

Serious nostalgia trip. My dad used to make deep fried aubergines on Sunday evenings which we ate with yoghurt. His were done in a deep fryer and the yoghurt was homemade. Mine are air fried with supermarket yoghurt and mango chutney. But they were pretty good.

Will spare you the Baudelaire pastiches that I thought passed for poetry at the age of 16 and share my final piano report. Sometimes the unconscious is pretty bloody obvious.

(My mum also kept the letter acknowledging that lessons had been cancelled)

Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately I can never read the phrase ‘narrow-gauge railway’ without thinking of Thomas the Tank Engine and an original story where Skarloey I think ends up locked in a shed and cannibalised for parts over time.

I am in Suffolk, reading #TheRingsOfSaturn drinking damson gin and watching the bats. But as of now, the moon has gone missing.

And if I may suggest my own Miss Boston and Miss Hargreaves, two women who were very happy to let those around them think they were spinsters. See pinned thread

So beautiful. Saw this Dufy in Aix last year but he’s not in Fauvist mode! I have been reading a lot of Katherine Mansfield over the last year or so and she has a very Fauvist way with colour.

Ziggy had something close to his perfect day yesterday. A long ‘walk’ on the Heath, ball, swimming and a huge (air dried) bone (only thing missing was a little croissant theft)
