I’m feeling especially braggadocious about the fact that I’ve achieved top diner status in New Haven after moving to Connecticut from Nashville only six months ago. Lol at the New York and San Juan rep here too ofc 🇵🇷

Bebé’s first homemade empanadillas! (I’m low key afraid of hot oil.)

I cooked the beef and potato down in sofrito, sazón and adobo, then just filled and fried

Turns out, no one can stop you from making pesto tortellini for breakfast

My favorite 15-minute meal continues to be bucatini arrabbiata (sausage optional)

I once made these miso chocolate chip cookies for someone who has said he “only eats to stay alive.” He ate nearly two dozen in two hours.

I made more flour tortillas, and this time used them for sausage, egg and cheese breakfast tacos. (They make me miss Tempo in Nashville a little less.)

Tuna melts are the most underrated diner food. (I will not be accepting any opposing views at this time.)

Here’s a really great recipe from Bon Appétit: www.bonappetit.com/recipe/class...

Frida Sofia Eats’ caesar bow ties recipe was a lifesaver this past work week (I rec using protein pasta to fill you up if you're someone, like me, who finds all three components, caesar salad, pasta and halloumi, some of the most bingeable foods out there) www.instagram.com/share/BALgS6...

New Haven officially holds the world record for the largest pizza party!

Here’s Guinness World Book of Records adjudicator Thomas Bradford making the announcement alongside organizer Colin Caplan, the founder of Taste of New Haven, moments ago.

A quesadilla craving suddenly reminded me that I worked summers at iTECH’s culinary school, where we would make tortillas every morning. (Shoutout to Immokalee, giver of so much of my Mexican cultural knowledge — and favorite people — growing up.)

Using the rest for salmon tacos

If you can’t tell from this thread, I’m pretty much pescatarian at home, so I’m all for a real tuna salad — but this mock tuna, made with chickpeas, English cucumber, shallot and fresh parsley is my favorite family recipe from my mom’s plant-based years. Bonus: it makes SO much.

And then I returned to making focaccia — this time to eat with Calabrian chili spread, arugula, mozzarella, pepperoncini and pesto.

(will get wild with Genoa salami and balsamic too in the next sandwich)

Cheesy chili oil pastina got me through a rainy day at the end of last month (and then lasted for a few days after)

I know I keep saying my job is all my abuelos dreamed of for me, but I think that peaked tonight being on stage for El Gran Combo’s Charlie Aponte performing at the Puerto Rican Festival of New Haven 🇵🇷

When I was a kid, I’d come back to Florida from summer trips to the Northeast buzzing to share all I got up to in New York and Jersey — pizza, hot dogs and bagels mostly — with my best friend, Laurie. Getting to go with her, now a NYC resident, to Coney Island for her first time as adults: priceless

Cold tofu is saving me on these 90-degree days: this time, silken tofu topped with a sauce made from peanut butter, ssamjang, sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, gochugaru, and hot honey, plus chili oil and green onions

And if that’s not enough coquito for you, it’s also a seasonal special at Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream. They offer Graza olive oil drizzles (good sign) and not just Puerto Rican flavors but at least Japanese as well with the shoyu — yes, soy sauce — ice cream (great sign).

Onto Vía Láctea, bff of all us lactose intolerant folks: I recently did a @ctpublic.bsky.social feature if you want to hear more about how this vegan, Puerto Rican ice cream shop came to be. My personal favorites are the guava panetela, coffee chip and coquito. www.ctpublic.org/news/2025-07...

Know before you go: You’ll be waiting for a while at Ferris Acres, but don’t let the line deter you. It moves quickly, and you’re in the shade in the late afternoon on.

Personally, I recommend anything with raspberry here. Both were the best raspberry anything I’ve had to date.

SCOOP: Did you know Connecticut is home to the best ice cream in the country? That’s according to @beliapp.bsky.social users, who ranked Ferris Acres Creamery the No. 1 in the nation.

I see that, and I raise you a couple more along the coast: Vía Láctea and Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream.

My new oven is also an air fryer, dehydrator AND bread proofer, which means much faster focaccia (perfect with pesto and burrata)

I’ve clearly been in a miso phase, but wow is this savory, veg-friendly option incredible — and a great use of cabbage if/when you have extra zenaskitchen.com/chilli-miso-...
