This illustration was produced as a sample for a picture book series OOPS & WONDER by Alexandra Osbourne about Pip the squirrel and his magic satchel. The author chose to go another direction. Here you can see the story text that would have accompanied the illustration.

Dance Party: new illustration inspired by the May #scbwidrawthis prompt and my nephew’s visit last month where he showed off his moves in our kitchen.

Tried some new techniques. Used watercolor, watercolor pencils, colored pencils and marker.

Been struggling with illustrating lately; anything beyond initial sketches. Finally it is starting to feel relaxing and fun again. Playing around with how to render a new illustration. A critique partner suggested taking small parts instead of tackling the whole. That has helped! #wip #kidlitart

It’s #kidlitartpostcard day and it’s the start of lacrosse season so this illustration seemed appropriate.

I’m an illustrator looking for new projects and representation.

A still shot of the custom card deck I designed and illustrated for my husband’s family as a Hanukkah gift. #vectorillustration

For Hanukkah, I illustrated a custom playing card deck for my husband’s family. I designed and illustrated the art on all 52 cards in the deck, front and back, using a vector graphic art style and a limited color palette. I had 10 copies printed from BoardGamesMaker.com, each in a custom card tin.

Big haul of picture books from the library today. Mix of mentor texts for wip dummy, books I’ve been meaning to read, and illustration inspiration books. Enjoying working through them this afternoon. #kidlit #libraryhaul

I just completed a puzzle that from the small box cover looked like quilled paper art. The puzzle pieces at full scale revealed it was a digital painting. Now that I’m finished I’m convinced it is an AI painting meant to mimic quilling. I am SOOOO disappointed in myself for selecting the puzzle. 🫣😡

I’m listening to HELLO STRANGER by Katherine Center (rom com). The main char is experiencing face blindness as a side effect of brain surgery. I’ve heard of face blindness and believe the author did her research, but my brain wants to reject it as a real thing people experience 🤯; I can’t process it

I wanted a to-scale model of a girl and dad on bikes for a new PB concept. Started with pipe cleaners but too flimsy. Ultimately used wood and glowforge. Pieces joined with toothpicks so I could have the joints move! Tempted to make some to-scale cars and houses but stopping for now. #kidlitart

I can’t find the “pin post” option and I’m feeling dumb. I went to an old post and clicked the 3 dots to bring up the post menu and don’t have that option. I am using the latest version of the app on my iPhone. What am I missing? Does it only work on the desktop app? @bsky.app #blueskyhelp

Felt inspired to do Day 1 of #peachtober24: daisy.
1.5”x1.5” #illustration using watercolor, coloredpencil, graphite and marker.

I sectioned off my sketchbook page into 6 1.5”x1.5” spaces and will plan to do some more prompts as time and inspo allow.

#graphicdesign conundrum:
Why does my brain want to read this right to left? Is it the lack of contrast in the left most A vs the high contrast and brightness of the rightmost A?
I’ve never experienced dyslexia and I’m a native English speaker and reader.

1) sketch: usually start with a ROUGH sketch in non-print cyan pencil, then refine with graphite pencil, then scan in, filter out cyan, refine sketch digitally
2) finished art: created with watercolor and graphite; use a lightbox with a 100% printout of sketch

It’s funny. I’ve always loved Illustrator. The precision and control speak to me. But I can only turn to Illustrator after sketches and design concepts are done or I’ll get bogged down in the weeds. 😜 My #kidlitart is traditional but my design illustrations are vector. Snippet of last week’s project
