Fascists don’t comprehend the simple mundane courageous altruism of ordinary everyday people, because in order for them to believe the things fascism requires they believe, that kind of altruism cannot exist. If it appears, it’s only a cynical lie

It’s also extremely indicative of the likelihood that they didn’t worry about the optics of brutalizing and murdering people like this because it never occurred to them that people like this would be out in the street putting their bodies on the line to defend their neighbors
