Climate Optimist | Executive Director at Clean Energy Canada | talks about climate, tech, politics, policy and the state of the world
Took a break from social media over the summer- but back sharing a few thoughts on clean nation-building with @bloomberg.com 👇
🇨🇦💰📈📉 To seize our position in the global clean economy, Canada must focus on sectors where our trading partners will want our products and where there’s "real room" for growth, Clean Energy Canada's @racheldoran.bsky.social tells BNN Bloomberg.

Trump’s EV detour would cost Canadians, but only if we follow him
While certain politicians to the south are making a misguided detour when it comes to EVs, Canada can still drive forward with a clear and long-term view.

We've been doing a lot of thinking about the next frontier of the energy transition in Canada -- here's our take on why "Empowering Households" is a lynchpin to 2030. Eager for your take....

#energysky
🔌🚗🏠 "At first blush, targeting households may not equate to as many megatonnes reduced in a technical model, but in so many other ways, transformation begins at home," write Clean Energy Canada's @racheldoran.bsky.social and @trevormelanson.bsky.social.

How the humble household can lead the way in fighting climate change
Households account for 17% of emissions in Canada. With the rapid uptake of clean energy technologies, the unsung hero in the climate fight may be next door.

“Can the grid handle all those electric cars?”—> “Why have we been wasting 40% of the energy we use on inefficient technologies?”

Electric cars= 3x more efficiency than internal combustion engine.

Not to suggest change is easy but electric future=efficient future.

We all need to become eco-populists. That means championing policies that significantly lower daily costs while lowering emissions. Heat Pumps for All, alongside much more robust tenant rights; free and better public transit; price caps on green energy; make polluters pay for the transition.

I always thought that industry had limited electrification potential.

How wrong I was:

Once we looked into it in more detail we found that the potential for industrial electrification is huge.

90% of industrial process heat could be electrified in Europe by 2035.
