Our statement about the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration bill says: "This bill will not fix the asylum system or heal the communities that have been broken and divided by decades of hostile laws and racist rhetoric that have targeted migrants. Framing migration as a ‘national security’ issue to use counterterror laws – while criminalising people seeking asylum – will further harm refugees and stoke divisions. The government must break with the failed policies of its predecessors and find real solutions to prevent people drowning in the Channel and help refugees to rebuild their lives. This includes protecting the right to claim asylum, creating safe routes to reach the UK, giving people the right to work, and fully repealing the hostile laws of the last government that allow authorities to detain children and scrap rights for trafficking survivors."
