broadway has that problem all the time tho, tickets are so expensive and they don't want to make the audience feel *too* uncomfortable. (see also: rent, hamilton, etc) It's a shame because the medium has so much potential that often only really gets realized in smaller shows IMO

yeah as far as I'm concerned (and tbh I do really like the musical, altho 99% just for the songs) it's barely an adaptation of the book at all. Even apart from the ending they removed all the politics beyond a vague "wizard bad hurt animals". book!elphaba is literally an anarchist bomber LMAO
